The Hope of Humanity

The Lowcountry Wind Symphony is pleased to announce an unprecedented program . . . the commissioning of a groundbreaking new work by world-renowned composer Stephen Melillo – The Hope of Humanity. This powerful piece will debut during our 2025-2026 concert season, and we’re offering YOU a unique opportunity to be a part of its creation!

For the first time, perhaps in all of Music history, we are inviting individuals to join us as 
Co-Commissioners. Your name will be forever etched in history, listed in perpetuity as a collaborator on this extraordinary work.

What does it mean to be a ‘Commissioner’? 

Commissioning music means that individuals or organizations become active participants in the creation of a legacy of music for the future. Anyone who is motivated to enrich the world with new music can commission a composition from a composer.  

While the composer owns and retains the rights to their own work, a commissioner is acknowledged on the first page of the musical score, on any official recording, in the performance program and often in other written materials.  Most of all, the commissioner experiences a satisfying sense of participation in the creation of a new work of music.

How can I participate in this exciting program?

There are set donation levels that allow you to participate in commissioning The Hope of Humanity.

• Level 1 – LWS Patron:$200-$499
  • You will receive the musical score artwork, a thank you letter, and your name will be listed as a Co-Commissioner on The Hope of Humanity score.
• Level 2 – LWS Circle: $500-$749
  • You will receive everything in the previous level plus a personalized, signed photograph of the Musicians, Conductor and the Composer from the premier performance.
• Level 3 – LWS Inner Circle: $750-$999
  • In addition to levels 1-2, you will receive a copy of The Hope of Humanity Score signed by the Composer.
• Level 4 – LWS Director: $1,000-$2499
  • In addition to levels 1-3, you will receive a complimentary framed copy of The Hope of Humanity Score signed by the Composer.
• Level 5 – LWS Afficionado: $2,500-$2999
  • In addition to levels 1-4, enjoy dinner and discussion about the creation of The Hope of Humanity and other compositions with Composer Stephen Melillo prior to the premier performance. Follow the pre-concert preparation and video recording of the premier performance with the composer. You need not be a musician.
• Level 6 –LWS “The Perfect Octave”: $3,000+
  • In addition to levels 1-5, you will become part of a consortium of Commissioners for a new piece, currently with the working title, Tents in Time. The work will be composed for solo tuba with small orchestra, and/or optional pre-recorded orchestra accompaniment.

Donations must be received by NOVEMBER 30, 2025 to have your name listed on the Musical Score.
